Q: How can I book a dorm?

A: There are sufficient double rooms, so you don’t need to book in advance. You can check in the dorm with Admission Notice on your arrival.

Single rooms and four-bed rooms are limited, so they can’t be booked in advance. First come, first serve.

 

Q: When is the application deadline?

A: (1) For Chinese language training program (Non-degree) and the Chinese Language program (Bachelor)

The application deadline for spring semester is 31th December.  

The application deadline for autumn semester is 30th June.

You’d better to apply at least 2 months before the deadline. Thus, we can process and send you the JW202 form and Admission Notice on time.

(2) For other bachelor programs, master program and doctoral program, please apply before the end of June every year in order to take the entrance exam or interview.

 

Q: How to pay the application fee?

A: Application fee is 450 RMB for Chinese language program and bachelor's programs; 800RMB for master's program and doctoral program.

Online payment is recommended. Please pay the application fee in the online application system. China Unionpay Card and VISA/MASTER Card are acceptable.

If it is inconvenient to finish online payment ,you can also find a friend in Beijing to pay for the application fee in CNU.

 

 

Q: What should I prepare before registration day?

A: Before you register at the International Student Office, you can firstly check in the dorm with the Admission Notice.

3. JW202 form (except L visa holder)

4. 2 certificate photos (white-background, 2 inches)

5. Registration Form of Temporary Residence

Note: If you live in the dorm, you can ask for the form in the lobby.

     If you live off campus, you need go to local police station.

6. Physical Examination Result (if you study more than 1 year)

7. Enough cash to pay the tuition, insurance and application fee etc.

(Only cash is accepted)

 

Q: What is the procedure of registration?

A: The general procedure is:

 1. Material verification

2. Tuition payment (except scholarship student)

3. Insurance purchase (except scholarship student)

4. Taking picture (for student card)

5. Visa extension

6. Placement

If you have any questions on the registration day, please feel free to ask the teachers or volunteers for help.

 

Q: Must I buy insurance?

A: According to the regulations of MOE, all of international students studying in China are required to purchase comprehensive medical insurance.

 

Q: How long is the validity of study visa?

A: International student can apply for X2 (short term study) or X1 (long term study) visa in Chinese embassy in order to come to China. X2 visa can be 30-180 days. If its validity can cover your study in China, you don’t have to change visa after your entry. Although X1 visa is for long term study, its validity is only 30 days after your entry and you must change it into Resident Permit within 30 days.

However, if the validity of X2 visa is not long enough for you to finish the study, you can apply for a visa extension or a Resident Permit after coming to China.

Residence Permit is a multiple-entry visa. Its validity can be 6 months or 1 year according to the tuition you've paid.

NOTE: In order to apply for X1 or X2 visa, you need JW202 form and Admission Notice issued by us.

Q: How much is visa application fee?

A: If you need to extend or change the visa, you should pay visa application fee. The cost can be 160, 312, 400 or 956 RMB according to the type of visa you need to apply for.

 

Q: Does CNU provide scholarship for international students?

A: Yes. CNU provides Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship for self-supported international students. New degree-seeking students in Capital Normal University (including bachelor, master and doctoral programs) can enjoy one semester/year freshman scholarship if they are qualified (verified by International Student Office).

    There are 3 levels of scholarship for matriculated degree-seeking international students (undergraduate, master and doctoral student). The first Scholarship is tuition waiver; the second Scholarship is 1/2 tuition waiver; the third Scholarship is encouragement award.

    There are also 3 levels of scholarship for non-degree-seeking international students. The first Scholarship is 1/2 tuition waiver; the second Scholarship is 1/4 tuition waiver; the third Scholarship is encouragement award. (CIE has the right of final explanation)

    In addition, Capital Normal University is one of the earliest universities that can accept "Chinese Government Scholarship" students and " International Chinese Language Teachers (Confucius Institute) Scholarship” students. Q: Is the total tuition for 1 year Chinese Language student 19600 RMB?

A: Yes. As to Chinese language training program, tuition for 1 semester is 9800RMB. Thus, Tuition for 1 year Chinese language training program is 19600 RMB.

   By the way, you have a good chance to win Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship. The award rate for international students is about 70% every year.

 

Q: Is the dorm only for student? Am I allowed to bring my friend to stay with me?

A: Sorry, the dorm is only for registered student in CNU.

 

Q: How many courses per week?

A: There are 20 courses per week, 5 days in total (Mon.--Fri.). School hours is 8:30am—11:50am. Interval is 10:00am—10:20am. There are classes all the morning.

 

Q: Is there any working opportunities for student during their study in China?

A: International students may have part-time job opportunities on campus.

 

Q: Can I live off campus?

A: You can live off campus, but you must go to the police station to register for accommodation.

 

Q: How much is the estimated living expenditure per month? (Rental & Meal)

A: It depends. If you live on campus, accommodation fee is about 9000RMB per semester while meal costs about 800RMB per month. If you travel during the weekend or holiday, the cost will be more.

 

Q: Can we apply for the spring semester?

A: Yes. Chinese Language program (non-degree, bachelor’s degree) is open to new international students in both spring and fall semester, the application deadline for the spring semester is Dec. 31th while the fall semester is Jun. 30th. As to other majors, you can only apply for the fall semester.

 

Q: Is there any language requirement for applicant?

A: There is no language requirement for Chinese Language training program. You can start from the scratch.

   Candidate for Chinese Language (bachelor) need HSK 3 certificate. Candidate for other bachelor's programs, master's programs and doctoral programs need at least HSK 5 certificate. Otherwise, it’s very difficult to follow the course.

 

Q: Can you briefly introduce some courses of Chinese Language Training program?

A: There are 20 classes per week, including elementary oral Chinese, listening, writing, reading, grammar etc.

    If you are in advanced level, there are courses of Contemporary Chinese Society, Chinese culture, Business Newspaper, Chinese history, Marketing etc.

There are also some interesting selective courses, such as Chinese painting, calligraphy and Tai Chi.
