Professor Liu Wenfei of the School of Foreign Languages Won the 2023 People's Literature Prose Award

On the morning of April 13, the 2023 People's Literature Award Ceremony was held in Luzhou, Sichuan, and Liu Wenfei, a professor at the School of Foreign Languages of CNU, won this year's People's Literature Prose Award for his prose Nine Moments in Dostoyevsky's Life .

Sponsored by the People's Literature magazine, the People's Literature Award is awarded annually for excellent works published in the People's Literature magazine and to writers and experts with outstanding contributions to the Chinese and foreign editions of the People's Literature in that year. The article Nine Moments in Dostoyevsky's Life was published in Issue I of People's Literature magazine in 2023, and the prize citation read that this article is a minimalist version of Dostoyevsky's biography and a spiritual composition of Russian literature in the mid-nineteenth century. The author portrays Dostoyevsky as a great author with a complex and tragic heart with novel techniques, poetic brushstrokes, and cross-genre forms from the perspective of ideological history and literature history. The scale of the soul, the depth of the spirit, the strength of thought, and the hardness of fate in the works have left an indelible impression on people.

The article Nine Moments in Dostoyevsky's Life was also included in Liu Wenfei's namesake collection of essays earlier this year, and was awarded the Prose (Including Non-fiction) Prize on the 2023 Literary Ranking of the Yangtze River Literary Review.

Liu Wenfei has made fruitful achievements in the field of Russian literature research. He was awarded the Friendship Medal of the Russian Federation and selected as one of the top ten outstanding figures in Sino-Russian cultural exchanges. He is currently a Yenching chair professor of Humanities at Capital Normal University, a doctoral supervisor of the School of Foreign Languages, a chief expert of the Beijing Slavic Research Center, Director of the Research Center of Foreign Poetry of Capital Normal University, a famous Chinese researcher and translator of Russian literature, a member of the Chinese Writers Association, an expert entitled to special allowances of the State Council, an expert of the Review Group of the National Social Science Fund of China, and host of the "General History of Russian Literature in Multi Volumes", a major bidding project of the National Social Science Fund of China.
