Number of hits:On the morning of April 8, the first lecture of the "Master Face-to-face" series for the 70th anniversary of the founding of Capital Normal University, co-organized by the Office of Science and Technology, Academy for Multidisciplinary Studies and Department of Physics, was successfully held. In this lecture, Zhang Xicheng, a well-known scholar from the University of Rochester, was invited to deliver a rich and thought-provoking academic report to the teachers and students.
Xicheng Zhang is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of terahertz research. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the journal Light: Science & Application, and a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He holds 29 U.S. patents, and has published more than 350 papers and more than 20 books. Xicheng Zhang is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of terahertz research. He holds 29 U.S. patents, and has published more than 350 papers and more than 20 books. Li Hailiang particularly emphasized that Zhang Xicheng, as an internationally renowned scientist and senior scholar in the field of terahertz, has always paid attention to the research and development of the teraherz field in China, supported and guided the scientific research of teraherz at Capital Normal University, and played an important leadership and guidance role in constructing the Key Lab of Teraherhz Optoelectronics of the Ministry of Education.
Zhang Xicheng's report first introduced the importance and application prospects of teraherz science and technology. He elaborated on the principles and characteristics of terahertz sources in four states of matter (solid, liquid, gaseous and plasma) and examples of their applications in different fields. Through his simple elaboration, the teachers and students present had a deeper understanding of terahertz technology.
When discussing the research of terahertz sources, Zhang Xicheng emphasized the solution strategy in the face of scientific research problems. He shared the challenges and difficulties he encountered in the research process and the way how he worked with his teammates and kept trying new methods to overcome such challenges and difficulties. He encouraged the students to stay curious and exploratory when encountering problems and be courageous to try and not be afraid of failure.
